'올해도 어김없이 사고 다발…포괄적 안전관리 강화 필요'

철강업계가 사업장 안전 강화에 심혈을 기울이고 있지만 사업장 사고는 계속되고 있는 것으로 나타났다.9일 업계에 따르면 현대제철은 최근 3년간 산업재해 발생 사실을 가장 많이 은폐한 사업장으로 꼽혔다. 현대제철 당진공장이 산재 발생 보고 의무를 20건 이상 위반한 것. 산재 사실 은폐 최다라는 불명예 얻은 만큼 현대제철 사업장에서의 사고는 지속적으로 발생해왔다.

현대제철 또 사망 사고...“노동자 무덤”

당진 3고로에서 하청노동자 사망...노동부 특별감독에도 연이어 중대재해

현대제철 충남 당진공장에서 또 다시 산재사망 사고가 발생해 노동계가 ‘현대제철은 노동자의 무덤’이라며 강하게 비판하고 나섰다.

현대제철 당진공장에서는 2012년 9월부터 11명의 노동자가 사망하거나 1명이 의식불명 상태에 빠지는 중대재해가 발생했다. 또한 올해 5월 아르곤 가스 누출 산업재해로 5명의 건설업체 소속 하청노동자가 사망했다.

이를 계기로 고용노동부는 당진제철소에 대해 지난 5월20일부터 6월27일까지 산업안전보건 특별감독을 실시했고, 그 결과 현대제철의 안전관리 시스템의 ‘총체적 부실’이 드러났다고 밝혔다.

현대제철 898건, 협력업체 156건, 건설업체 69건 등 총 1,123건의 산업안전법 위반사항이 적발된 것이다.

민주노총 충남지역본부, 전국플랜트건설노조 충남지부, 금속노조 현대제철지회 등 충남지역 노동계는 31일 오전 현대제철 당진공장 C지구정문 앞에서 기자회견을 열고 현대제철이 ‘살인기업’에서 ‘노동자의 무덤’으로 자리매김했다며 강하게 비판했다.
